Object Detail: High
Do not use Low as you will have issues with surfaces rendering.
Object View Distance: Medium/High
Do not use Ultra, it causes a lot of stuttering/frame jitter
Planet Volumetric Clouds: Low/Medium/High
This is one of the bigger choices to make as it's one of the most noticeable when you're in atmosphere. If you have no performance difference between Low/Medium/High, then go for the highest option for the better visuals.
Gas Clouds: Low
There is an incredibly subtle difference between settings and you can drop a over 10 frames from just having it set to Very High
There is nearly no visual difference (it seem to act like it's a resolution that's being changed, but it's really smoothed out anyway making it even harder to tell the difference so why bother?)
Water Caustics: Low
You'll never notice it unless your camera is in the water, and when your camera is in the water, you'll struggle to find any differences above the Low setting (if there even is any differences, this might be broken and not do anything above Medium)
Water Sim: Low
This seems to be broken in the current 4.5 patch (10989003) as I don't think water simulation seems to be working
Shading: Medium
There's little difference between Medium/High/Very High
Post Effects: Low
Doesn't seem to be much of a difference
Video Comms: Low
There might be a small brightness difference between Low/Medium, but there doesn't appear to be any difference with Medium/High/Very High
From CIG
Upscaling
This is related to how the graphics resolution (above) is processed, using various methods to adjust to using a lower resolution to render higher resolution images without sacrificing any quality. This can help save on VRAM usage and assist with GPU performance. If you are using an Nvidia video card, the option for DLSS will be available and is recommended. Otherwise, the option we recommend is CIG-TSR.
Textures Quality
Textures refers to game art assets which are used to cover or "wrap" objects in the game world. Basically, this is the art that you see that makes up everything in the game. This setting will change how much of your VRAM will be used for streaming textures and also relates to the target resolution of said textures.
Testing VRAM
Video Random Access Memory or VRAM is dedicated memory for use with processing graphics information on your computer. This helps with processing power as it takes load off of the main CPU (Central Processing Unit). While inside the Graphics Options menu in the game, there will be a horizontal bar on the bottom right which will show the estimated maximum video memory the game will use with your chosen screen resolution and other graphics settings
